VENDOR SPOTLIGHT
Want great wedding day entertainment? Do your research, know the trends and ask the right questions. For nearly a decade, Courtney Benjamin of Big Man Entertainment, a full service music entertainment and sound reinforcement company, shared a few wise tips and current industry trends for those of you seeking the exceptional entertainment for your special day.
Benjamin cites more and more deejays compiling music in the MP3 format, the same technology that brings you IPOD music. Two major benefits of this format? It allows deejays to be more compact and have a greater music selection as they are able to download a great deal of music.
However by downloading, deejays are at the mercy of the music's source which can produce poor quality sound, a major drawback to this trend. As for bands, the trend leans more toward compact sound systems. This technology works well for all parties involved as they work well, are powerful and heir compactness means there are less visible speakers and wires in the venue.
When it comes to hiring entertainment for our special day, Benjamin urges couples to contact bands and deejays' references to get a better and more complete sense of the company. Benjamin suggests asking references if the band or deejay was early as an early arrival does not permit guest to see the entertainment set up. Moreover, ask if they own of rent their equipment. If they rent, they may not be familiar with the functionality of the equipment leading to improper operation and poor production quality. Finally, when signing the contract, request a back up system and outline it in your contract.

ENGAGING THOUGHTS...
From the editor's desk
When working with my brides, I like to de-stress the planning processing by encouraging light moments from the proposal to the ceremony. It keeps things interesting and exciting.Decades, ago your mom would tell you to take bi-weekly or monthly visit to the spa for a massage and facial. The age old words were,
The pampering will do you some good and keep you on your toes. And for the gents, fathers oft encouraged their soon to be wed sons to go fishing, play golf or
go off with your pals. Those words of wisdom a generation ago are still useful today. However, in the information age, an era marked by e-mails, cell hones, the internet, fax machines and cable TV we become over loaded and simple spa may not be enough to ease the tension and stress of planning a wedding.
From bridal showers to bachelor parties, new trends help make the planning process more fun than ever. Want to learn while you entertain your girlfriends? A few trendy ideas include cooking, craft and jewelry making classes during the shower. New ideas in bachelorette parties (a recent trend itself) include spa days as well as bowling parties in trendy bowling lounges such as New York City's Bowlmoor Lanes. Also, grooms can enjoy weekend getaways to Las Vegas and for a new twist on an old favorite, have a golf excursion on a Caribbean Island.
For simple fun, couples can arrange a date night and this summer's newest wedding comedy, Confetti a British mockumentary that pokes fun at wedding planning. Of course there are familiar favorites out on DVD like Father of the Bride (The original with Spencer Tracy as well as the remake with Steve Martin), Four Weddings and a Funeral, My Best Friend's Wedding, Muriel's Wedding, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, The Wedding Singer and Wedding Crashers. Whatever you do, make your planning easy, effortless and fun.
Here's to your future!

POPPING THE QUESTION...
Answers to your most perplexing bridal dilemmasQ: My wedding colors are chocolate and powder blue. What color should my mom where? Or more appropriately what are the traditional colors for mothers.
A: Generally mothers should where colors that compliment the bridal party’s colors. The traditional theme has been a pastel version of the bridesmaid gowns. Black, though acceptable for other guests, continues to be a taboo color for a mother of the bride as some say it suggests she is in mourning. White would not be a good idea as that is the color reserved exclusively for the bride. More important than anything else, make sure the color compliments her hair and skin tones and allows her to shine on your special day.
