VENDOR SPOTLIGHT
Although modern weddings take a departure from past years, a long standing uninterrupted tradition is the bridal registry. One of my favorite picks for a bridal registry stores is Bloomingdale's. What makes this department store special is their tremendous record of fine quality products and exceptional service. Bloomingdale's offers a variety of wedding registry products from the more traditional Waterford Crystal to more contemporary brands such as Vera Wang. For a store near you or to order online, click the link to their website www.bloomingdales.com.
I recently came across M. Avery Designs, a local shop specializing in custom made bridal accessories whose crafty work has been featured in Wedding Channel Magazine and New Jersey Bride. The line carries a bounty of rich fabrics in a variety of vibrant colors from which brides can design their own products. More exciting, the shop holds handbag parties where guests can make their own handbags from an assortment of pre-selected fabrics and colors. To learn more and see samples, log on to their website at www.maverydesigns.com.
ENGAGING THOUGHTS...
From the editor's desk
Close your eyes. Blow out the candles and make a wish! It's April and we have tons to celebrate. The 24th of this month is very special for two reasons. First it is my birthday! Glad to be alive and have made it this far! The second reason it is the one year anniversary of this site's launch! So Happy Birthday to me and www.purplemoonevents.net.
As I light a candle to celebrate a year past, I look to its bright flame as a future to behold. Looking back on this past year there has been so much growth. More clients, more diverse events and Purple Moon Events have a few corporate events under her belt. It has been a good year and I expect the next year to be better. I certainly hope the advice and ideas dispensed in this monthly column have been useful.
The road has not always been easy. While event planning can be loads off fun, it is still a business and with it come many business aspects. Marketing, balancing the books and planning go hand in hand with picking the right floral décor. But in the end, as with finding the right love, it is all worth it. For sure, in this business, through my own choices and mistakes and those of my clients', I have learned plenty. But chief among them--and this is something I certainly hope can be applied to your wedding and marriage—can be summed up in the great quote below.
"The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you settled for."
~Maureen Dowd

POPPING THE QUESTION...
Answers to your most perplexing bridal dilemmasQ: This is a second marriage for both of us. We both have children under 13. How can we incorporate them into the wedding and make them feel like this is the beginning of a new blended family?
A: Adding children from previous marriages and relationships is a rising new trend as well as a good idea and there are many ways to do it. One way is to ask them to be a part of the wedding party. Boys and girls 10 and older can serve as effective and attentive best men and maids of honor. For younger children, giving them rings, bracelets or necklaces during the ring exchange portion of the ceremony will make them feel that they are sharing in your special day too.
